Seeking Commercial Interior Design Director

dPOP seeks an experienced design leader to develop + direct a team of designers, to create unique, inspiring, and culture-driven workspaces.

This position is instrumental in helping to communicate dPOP’s mission + vision from executive leadership to the team. This individual will be responsible for empowering the team to achieve design excellence for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a track record of managing + mentoring team member career development. Exceptional client service and the ability to work with a team to deliver high-end bespoke designs are a must.

• Lead a team of interior designers to create impactful, high-end designs for commercial spaces
• Influence design process throughout the entire project; lead/direct the work of the design team
• Develop expertise on projects, based on varying scales of work, scope of projects, and phases of design
• Provide direction for overall design concepts, formulate design presentation strategies, and lead client presentations
• Oversee + ensure the quality of the following design efforts of the team:
  o Conduct programming efforts (space planning, furnishing layout, lighting
     + finish coordination)
  o Develop innovative design concepts that are reflective of client
      objectives within project budget
  o Render conceptual, schematic, and design development drawings
  o Prepare + conduct client presentations
  o Select + specify furniture, finishes, lighting + artwork
• Co-create + support career development plans for all team members
• Oversee the interviewing + hiring of team members
• Conduct regular updates of forecasting and lead report documentation
• Conduct one-on-one sessions with team members
• Develop a design team growth plan, based on projected projects + existing resources
• Conduct semi-annual skills assessments and annual performance reviews
• Serve as initial point of contact for clients and at significant milestones throughout the design process
• Manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination to ensure all client objectives are met
• Maintain strong client communication throughout entire design + construction process
• Manage client interaction + decision-making related to design team guidance, leadership, and mentorship
• Serve as point of contact for accounting, purchasing, and deliveries
• Establish + maintain ongoing relationships, built on trust with clients, vendors, contractors, architects, etc.
• Develop design contract, set fees, and estimate hours for project duration
• Ensure projects conform to contract
• Create and communicate clear + attainable project objectives + requirements
• Identify and communicate project deliverables + deadlines for design team
• Update executive leadership team on reporting and financial forecasting for all projects
• Focus on revenue generation and new project leads
• Coordinate with marketing/content specialist for project documentation including written descriptions, website review, award submissions, etc.
• Schedule + lead photoshoot direction to document projects after completion

• Experience in both office + field process of construction

• Ability to travel periodically

• Graduate or undergraduate degree in architecture, interior architecture, or interior design from an accredited college or university
• 7+ years of related work experience in workplace design and/or hospitality design
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership role
• Understanding of financial reporting + terminology
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD
• High proficiency in a 3D modeling software, including but not limited to Revit, SketchUp, and/or 3Ds Max
• Experience in specifying furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF+E)
• Advanced graphic + verbal presentation skills, including hand sketching
